Pretty new. Have done some training for specific Army competitions which have got me running a pretty decent amount, but by no means incredible.

Stay healthy this year. Coming off of a bad shin splint which took about 3-4 months to fully recover.

Build back up to 60+ miles a week

Personal:

A CPT in the US Army stationed at Fort Benning, GA. I've three wonderful kids and the best wife I could ask for. Been away from the running scene for a while, and I sure miss it. Trying to make a comeback!

Starting to get back into it. The summer heat will begin to die down soon. I haven't logged all my miles in the past 12 months or so, but I can tell you it hasn't been very much.

My wife on the other hand is killing it. About to run her first 10 miler (race) that my unit is putting on. That will be 31 October. I bet she averages 8:00 or slightly under. Killing me right now!

Same route as Monday. Ended up averaging about an 8:25 pace. There are some decent hills on this route that I would like to blame for my slow pace, but I think the real answer is me!

Did the Downing Mile today with all the Os in the BN with some staff members. My Battalion Commander is very in shape and is challenging me to get back into it. The Downing Mile is a trail run with a bunch of obstacles (walls, monkey bars, etc.). We did one instructional loop for those that hadn't ever done it before, and two at our own pace. I ended up finishing 5th out of 25, but nothing to brag about...I was dying going up the hills at the end.

Afterwards, I finished with a down and up on Cardiac Hill.

Ran the same route as Mon/Wed of last week just a little longer. Got out to Malone 2 and turned around. That added another hill to the run. Not sure what my time was, my GPS watch may be biting the dust...

Finally got my Garmin 305 to work. I love this watch, but it has given me so many issues...I think sweat has gotten into the watch a bit too many times.

I ran the first mile in about 8:40 and the second in about 8:20. Just trying to keep the body moving and warm. I had some back spasms yesterday, so I didn't want to push it. Time to get some love from our Athletic Trainers.

Wow, this morning was SO cool! I am amazed how fast fall seems to have come. I'm not holding my breath though, because I know what the weather down here can do. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity to run this morning.

The run hurt though. I had back spasms on Monday, and I've got some strange muscle in my upper back behind my lungs that is either really sore, or I pulled it during the back spasms. It makes it really hard to take a deep breath. My body is probably tired anyway, but this run was rough...

Man, another rough run this morning. My back is feeling a lot better, but not 100% yet. I think sleep and my back/lung pain had an affect on this weeks running. Hopefully next week it gets better.

I don't know if that is a good thing or not Rob. Waking up and seeing my pathetic running, lol. I don't think I go well with a cup of coffee!

Hope you are doing well. How does the X-country team look this fall?

I felt really good today. My legs felt strong and my cardio felt better. Obviously that is from taking the weekend off to rest. This is still a challenging course that hurts with the hills. The first .85 of a mile is basically all uphill. Then it goes about .25 downhill, then another .25 uphill. After that it is about another .15 dowhnhill and probably .35 uphill to the turnaround. Then repeat the same all the way back. So generally I am coming back faster, but it takes it out of me based on the difficulty going out...why do I do this again, lol?

Today wasn't too bad of a run. It is still really humid down here, but the heat is somewhat cooling down. Either way, I need to be out running anyway. I wanted to keep it nice and easy today and that certainly happened on the first mile, but then I kicked it up on the way back (for my fitness level at least). Generally on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I am just trying to get a few slow miles in to warm the body up and stay loose.

I really started pushing it the last mile, so from 1.5 to 2.5 I finished in 7:45.

Took some time off, more than I should have!

I wanted to hit 4 today, but I wasn't feeling well. The bottom of my foot was hurting, my knee was bothering me, etc. etc. etc. These things aren't normal for me, so I didn't want to chance it. I'll get back after it tomorrow.

Its been a little bit. The last two weeks we had back to back graduations, which doesn't leave much time to workout in the mornings with all the rehearsals we have. No excuses, next grad cycle I'll get after it better.

Today felt pretty good though. My thighs are sore from squats and what not from last week, but all in all it felt good.

My heart rate was a lot higher than I would anticipate; however, most likely indicative of my cardiovascular fitness at this stage.

I felt a bad today, as I felt good last Monday. Running once a week doesn't help, but my running partner is back at work. Things should start getting more consistent.
